Our Story.

A place to think, to learn, and to become — built for people who never stop teaching themselves something new.

“I couldn't find a journal that actually made me want to learn — so I made one.”

Meet the Founder

Elwyn Fernandes

Founder & Leatherworker

Self study was never meant to be another notebook. I wanted a place where someone could teach themselves something — to collect thoughts, sketch ideas, take notes, experiment and reflect, and come back to it all years later.

That's where the name comes from. Self study isn't about school. It's about choosing what you want to learn and going after it yourself.

The leather covers came from wanting that experience to feel like it mattered — something handmade, durable and beautiful enough to become a long-term companion, not something disposable that gets filled once and forgotten.

Our Mission

Self Study Journals exists for people who never stop learning. We craft handmade leather journals that turn curiosity into something you can hold — built to last through years of notes, sketches and ideas, and to grow more beautiful the more they're used. We're not making notebooks. We're building a physical home for the way you think.

Curiosity

Every journal starts blank, on purpose. What you fill it with is entirely up to you.

Craft

Cut, stitched and finished by hand from full grain leather — no two covers are ever quite the same.

Longevity

Made to be carried and used for years, not filled once and shelved.

Crafted for the curious.
